The Many Jobs of Medical Billing

When people talk about getting a medical billing job, they often have a single vision of what that entails. Usually people will think about the person in their own doctors office that sends out bills to the patients. While this is a position that you can have with this type of training, it is not the only one out there.

Medical billing training gives you a lot of knowledge and skills that can be used in many different areas of the health care industry. The basic information that you can get out of nine month training course can give you knowledge on medical terminology and procedures on how to collect payments that can be used in positions that you would not normally think about.

Pre Review Biller

When it comes to medical billing, you do not always have to work for the providers. There are many positions that you can get hired for with the actual insurance companies or processors for them. One such position would be in pre review. When a claim goes in for lets say workman's comp, it usually goes to a repricing company first. The first step is it to be reviewed to make sure that it meets with the claim. If it does not, it is sent back without being processed. You could be the person looking over all of the claims that have come in.

Collections

For the person in medical billing that is good at negotiating and getting people to pay, collections can mean a lot of money for them. Many providers and hospitals have to send patient bills to collection agencies for non payment. You can receive a percentage of the amount of money that you collect when you do this.

These are just two of the many positions that you can get in the medical billing field. When you look past the stereotypical vision of what this career entails, you will see that there are many more possibilities available for you out there. If you still find yourself stuck applying to a few positions that are the basic ones, it is time to get to your career center.

Many of the best places with medical billing schooling have career placement centers. These are one of the most under used areas that you have already paid for. Sit down with the counselor and talk about what is open there. You will also get some great network contacts that can help you to get your next job.
